Exchange System Manager stopped working

An Exchange administrator keeps receiving a strange error message when he tries to open Exchange System Manager. SearchExchange.com expert David Sengupta helps him troubleshoot the problem.

I have a problem opening Exchange System Manager on my server. I get the following:

"Faulting application exadmin.dll, version 6.5.7226.0, stamp 406d1e32, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.2.3790.0,...

stamp 3e802494, debug? o, fault address 0x000249d3"

I am running Windows 2003 server with no service packs and Exchange 2003 SP1. If I reinstall Exchange 2003 SP1, it works for a while and then gives me that error message again.

Have a look at the following Knowledge Base article to see if it addresses your problem: Exchange System Manager may stop responding in Exchange Server 2003. If it doesn't, then a free call to Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) will get you the hotfix.
