Instant Messaging and Unified Messaging

Instant messaging is becoming ubiquitous in corporate environments, but it often isn't properly installed, managed or secured. Oftentimes, users download free third-party IM software products without the consent or knowledge of IT management. Some businesses are standardizing instant messaging usage by deploying Microsoft instant messaging products like Microsoft Office Communications Server and Microsoft Office Communicator in conjunction with Exchange Server and Microsoft Outlook, as part of a larger unified-communications or unified-messaging strategy.
