Resolving mail delivery problems from the Exchange client

Resolving mail delivery problems from the Exchange client
Adesh Rampat

When a user sends mail from an Exchange client, the path the mail follows can be through a simple dialup connection via an ISP to a mail server located at the ISP?s site, or through a network connection to an Exchange server that routes mail to other Exchange servers outside the organization. Whatever the connection method used, the following checklist can be applied when a mail cannot be delivered from the Exchange client:

  • If using dialup access, verify that you are connected to an ISP;

  • Sometimes sending messages using different fonts can create a problem resulting in the message being stuck in the Outbox. Try a standard font example, such as Times New Roman;

  • Make sure that the Email account being used is a valid one; If the exchange server mail queue is jammed with messages to be delivered this, you can get message-delivery delays.

  • There could be a corrupted personal store file (.pst). Fix it with the Inbox repair tool.

  • Some Firewall software has mail mappings built-in that stores SMTP email addresses for all users in the organization. If a user wants to send SMTP mail to another SMTP user attached to an exchange server outside the organization a SMTP email address must be created before communication occurs.
