ADModify.Net is a tool created by Microsoft's Product Support Services division for making modifications in bulk to Active Directory user and object records. It's useful for domain administrators, obviously, but it can also be of immense use to Exchange administrators for making mass changes to user records.
The original ADModify tool was written in C++, but the 2.0 revision has been completely rewritten from the ground up in Visual C# using .NET. People who have used the original version of the utility should notice a significant improvement in performance, as well as many changes to the program.
For instance, it's now possible to modify any attribute available in Active Directory by simply providing a name and a value, rather than using the hard-coded values within the program. A command-line version of the tool also exists, allowing for all actions that can be done with it to be scripted.
There are numerous new features in ADModify.Net aimed specifically at Exchange Server administrators, including:
- Exchange Mailbox rights can now be edited interactively -- they can be dumped out to an XML file, imported from an XML dump and applied, and add/remove users with specific rights to/from multiple mailboxes at once.
- You now have the ability to bulk undo operations (with a few exceptions), so that changes made from a bulk-operations XML file can be rolled back cleanly.
