EXCHANGE SERVER ADMINISTRATION TIPS
A roundup of DST resources for Exchange Server administrators

The Daylight Saving Time (DST) changeover is imminent and many administrators are still scrambling to get their IT houses in order. As a follow up to my tip last week, "Managing Daylight Saving Time (DST) issues on Exchange Server and Microsoft Outlook," here are some additional DST resources to help you cope:
- One of the most detailed DST resources is the Microsoft's Daylight Saving Time Technet Blog. In remarkable detail, it covers many of the more esoteric questions about the DST changes and how they affect Exchange Server users.
Among the most commonly asked questions: "poofing" the calendar (what an expression!), what to do when mailboxes can't be found for time zone information updates, and what to do if information for specific time zones are missing from the registry. During business hours through March 13, the DST Team at Microsoft is also hosting regular chats for administrators who have more detailed questions.
- OutlookExchange.com has a list of solutions to common problems with the Exchange 2003 DST Rebaser, such as how to determine double- or even triple-booking conflicts for appointments. They make use of a set of free tools by a company named Sumatra, which addresses issues like how the DST fix will impact archiving, or how meeting corruption can affect the results of a DST adjustment.
- The MS Exchange Tips blog has a top-to-bottom breakdown of the DST patching and adjustment process.
- There is also a BlackBerry Daylight Saving Time 2007 page that specifically covers the impact of DST changes on BlackBerry mobile devices, and provides additional details about its use with Exchange Server.
- Finally, for those of you using Powershell, Exchange Server developer Glen Scales has produced a script that audits all appointments across all calendars on a given Exchange server -- a nice way to get an at-a-glance view of whether or not the rebasing tool has done its job.
