A free Exchange Server Intelligent Message Filter (IMF) utility called IMF Archive Manager (IMFAM) is now available to manage Exchange IMF's archive directory. Setup is simple and only requires the name of the Exchange Server IMF archive and email pickup folders.

Although similar to IMF Companion, GotDotNet's IMF Archive Manager has some unique features.

Written in C#, IMF Archive Manager provides an interactive view of all messages that have been sequestered in the Exchange Intelligent Message Filter archive. If you find that your Exchange IMF settings seem to be a little too zealous, you can use IMFAM to get a better idea of what's being trapped there and what's being scored higher or lower than it should be.

Each archived Exchange Server email message is stored with its headers and a raw copy of its contents, as well as the Spam Confidence Level (SCL) rating for that message. The SCL is expressed as both the SCL rating, a whole number, and as a percentile rating.

To report certain email to an antispam aggregating authority (e.g., SpamCop), IMFAM lets you set up a "Report" function. You can submit the contents of a given email to a fixed address, optionally stripping out X- headers that might complicate analysis by the recipient.

In addition, if you change Exchange Server's Intelligent Message Filter settings and want to resubmit email that was originally sequestered by the IMF, you can use the "Resubmit" function to do so.

Be aware that if you don't set Exchange IMF to archive email with its SCL ratings, you won't see the SCL rating listed with messages. To enable this functionality, you must edit the registry on the Exchange server running IMF. In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\ContentFilter, add or edit a DWORD value named ArchiveSCL and set it to 1.
