MAPI Explorer is a free program that allows Exchange administrators to browse persistent objects in the MAPI object space in Exchange. With this tool, an administrator can examine all of the objects and properties that would be available through the Active Messaging interface, including the various information stores: the folder hierarchy, messages and message fields, recipients, attachments, address lists, distribution lists, and much more.
MAPI Explorer shows every object in a raw data format, so that the underlying field data can be inspected directly. The program also lets the user interactively copy data to the clipboard by double-clicking on a selected field line. For instance, if you need to retrieve the GUID of a given object for application development, you can retrieve it quickly through this tool. (Fields longer than 1,000 characters are truncated, but the underlying data will be copied intact.) If you have a very large object collection and want to limit the number of objects reported, you can press F2 to edit the program's configuration and set the maximum number of objects in a collection.
The field data definitions are supplied in an accompanying .INI file, which can be edited if needed to accommodate new field types. For instance, field code 1000 (hex) is the code for the body of a message. Also included in the .INI file are shortcuts to commonly used public folders, which can also be edited as needed. The user can also provide alternate definitions for MAPI fields in the .INI file in the section labeled [Alt Fields Definitions] -- for instance, to show how the fields look in Outlook. MAPI Explorer also has searching and sorting routines, although searching is limited to the information currently being displayed -- i.e., if you're limiting the number of objects reported, the search won't encompass objects not available in the current report.
Note that the program requires the COMCTL32.OCX control to be present, which is available as part of the Visual Basic library.

MEMBER FEEDBACK TO THIS TIP
I seem to be having a problem running this tool. I run the executable and it doesn't do anything. I have let it run for some time, but it does not get anywhere. I am running it from my desktop. I do have Outlook, the Exchange admin and the COMCTL32.OCX file. Can you give me any help with this?

I'm not entirely sure, but try running the tool locally on the Exchange Server itself and see if that helps. Good luck!
