Microsoft released a refreshed beta 2 help file this week for Exchange Server 2007, ahead of the release of Exchange Server 2007, Microsoft's next-generation messaging server expected in the next few months.

The help file that shipped with Exchange Server 2007 beta 2 was a preliminary one that didn't include all the necessary guidance, said Lee Benjamin, principal at ExchangeGuy Consulting, a Boston-based consulting firm. It helps users who are testing the beta, he said.

The Exchange Server 2007 help file aids users in their daily administration of the enterprise messaging product, Microsoft said. It also helps users familiarize themselves with Exchange 2007 features and tasks. The new messaging product is in its second beta. A final product is expected in late 2006 or early 2007.

The latest version of Exchange can run only on 64-bit servers, and it uses Active Directory for routing. Exchange has been operating within the same 32-bit architecture for the past 10 years, since Exchange 4.0.
