Microsoft delivers new Exchange tool for mobile devices |

Microsoft recently added a new tool for Exchange Server administrators and updated another.
The Exchange Server ActiveSync Web Certificate-based Authentication tool includes several utilities to help Exchange administrators configure and validate mobile device certificate authentication for Exchange Server ActiveSync.
The tool also helps administrators configure certificate enrollment for mobile devices connecting to Exchange Server 2003 SP2, Microsoft said. And it will populate Active Directory for mobile devices enrolling for a certificate, providing certificate authority server name, certificate template and other settings such as custom Web enrollment URLs.
The software works with Windows 2000 Server SP 4, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1. For Exchange Server ActiveSync Client Certificate-based Authentication to work, IT administrators need Windows 2000 Server SP4 or later versions or Windows Server 2003 SP1 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 SP2.
Microsoft also released an updated version of its software that lets IT administrators tax their Jet database to make sure it can handle a large database and a large number of users.
The Exchange Server Jetstress tool lets an administrator verify the performance and stability of a disk subsystem before putting an Exchange server into production. The software helps verify disk performance by simulating Exchange disk I/O load.
"This would be useful if you were in a situation where you had a large server or several large organizations with the same mail server, and you really need to know your hardware is up to snuff," said Jon Hurd, a network analyst with the City of Redmond in Washington.
Administrators can use the Jetstress tool with Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 and Windows Server 2003.
