Customers who do not immediately need all of the functionalities of Enterprise Vault can implement additional capabilities as required, customizing their policies to meet current storage and regulatory compliance needs.

Choice of storage platform is an important one in terms of long-term archiving. Because of this, KVS offers the Enterprise Vault Open Storage Layer and partnerships with storage providers which it says allows it to anticipate how storage use will change over time. The Open Storage Layer addresses storage requirements, provides a platform for dealing with legacy content and allows seamless exploitation of future technologies to lower the ongoing total cost of ownership and protect against future risk, according to KVS.

Among the benefits of e-mail and content archiving is the ability to maintain a long-term repository of corporate records that will become important in the event of litigation or regulatory compliance. The Enterprise Vault Business Accelerators address this by enabling an organization to exploit archived content for compliance and legal protection.
