All updates will appear as part of Exchange Server 2007 SP2 -- due out in the third quarter of this year.

Microsoft said that Update Rollup 8 includes a fix for an Update Rollup 7 bug that caused the sender of the Delivery Status Notification to be unresolved. Previously, the disable kernel mode authentication in Windows Server 2008 for client access servers (CAS) was needed to manually configure CAS. In Rollup 8, the installer will automate this configuration.

Microsoft said recently that Exchange Server 2007 SP 2 will bolster event auditing and also includes improved backup features, dynamic Active Directory schema update and validation capabilities, and public folder quota management. A new PowerShell option will improve central management of Exchange organizational settings.

Last month, Microsoft said it would add email archiving features to Exchange Server 2010 -- the next major release. Exchange 2010 will be ready in the latter half of 2009, the company said.
