Normally, you want your Exchange 2007 journaling rules to be enabled. But you may occasionally need to disable a journaling rule -- perhaps for diagnostic purposes, for example.

To disable an Exchange Server 2007 journaling rule:

  1. Open the Exchange Management Console and navigate through the console tree to Organization Configuration -> Hub Transport.

  2. Select the Journaling tab to see a list of all of the existing journaling rules.

  3. Right click on the journaling rule you wish to disable and select the Disable Rule command from the shortcut menu.

Likewise, you can re-enable an Exchange 2007 journaling rule by right clicking on the rule and choosing the Enable Rule command from the shortcut menu.

If you ever need to completely delete a journaling rule, you can do so by right clicking on the rule and selecting the Remove command.

Modifying Exchange 2007 journaling rules

Occasionally, you may create a journal rule only to find that the rule does not behave exactly as you had intended. In those cases, or when your compliance requirements change, you will need to edit the rule to make it perform in the desired manner.

To edit an Exchange Server 2007 journaling rule, simply right click on the journaling rule and choose the Properties command. This properties sheet allows you to make changes to most of the rule's settings.
