QUESTION POSED ON: 24 June 2004
I am trying to install Exchange 5.5 on a Windows 2003 server. The installation fails with the error: "While attempting to start the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service, the following error was encountered: the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. ID no: 0xc002041d"

I have added the service ID as an administrator and I still get this error. What should I do?

Unfortunately, installing Exchange 5.5 on a Windows Server 2003 machine is not supported. You can run Exchange 5.5 installed on a Windows 2000 machine pointing to a Windows 2003 Active Directory, but that's about as far as you can get before you have to upgrade Exchange Server. See Microsoft Knowledge Base article 810591 for more information.
