Yes, this has been a feature of Exchange public folders for some time. In fact, in Exchange 2000 and later, when running in a Mixed Mode Exchange organization, all public folders are mail-enabled by default.

To create a mail-enabled public folder:

1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
2. In the console tree, double-click Folders, and then locate the folder that you want to configure.
3. Right-click the folder, point to All Tasks, and then click Mail Enable.

Note, though, that there are some issues with Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003 mail-enabled public folders. Namely, by default, messages sent by SMTP to one of these folders use a message class of IPM.Post (e.g., a post message in a public folder) as opposed to a message class of IPM.Note (the class used for mail messages).

With the IPM.Post class, you cannot directly reply to or forward to the sender or see carbon copy recipients. To learn more about this issue, see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles: 292484, 817809 and 830961.
