QUESTION POSED ON: 16 March 2004
I have an Exchange 2000 mailbox that when doing mailbox backup with Vertis 9.0 the Job hangs on a mail message that is old and does not appear in the users inbox when displaying the inbox from his profile. I am unable to find the file -- it does not show up except when doing mailbox backup.

Have you tried opening the mailbox with an alternate Exchange client, such as POP3, IMAP4, Outlook Web Access or the older Exchange 5.0 client? One of those clients might be able to display the message and perhaps even enable you to delete the bad message.

Another option would be to run ESEUTIL against the database and see if it can repair the damage. See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;317014 for details on how to do this.

Finally, you might contact Veritas and see if they have a workaround that might allow the backup job to skip one or more bad items and continue the backup.
