QUESTION POSED ON: 25 October 2003
Our school district is in the early stages of a migration to an AD environment. As part of this plan, we will be moving from our current Exchange 5.5 mail system to either an Exchange 2000 or 2003 Exchange system. The e-mail domain will be changing prior to the move to AD; that brings up a problem of updating the SMTP addresses of over 6,500 users.

Is there an alternative method to adding an additional SMTP address to each user's account, or will we have to "touch" each account via Exchange Administrator 5.5? Can we modify the database directly, or will we have to export the Global Address list, make the additions, then import the changes back in again?

>
No, you won't have to touch each account individually. Once you move to Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003, you can use the Recipient Update Service to update all of your users with the desired SMTP address.
