QUESTION POSED ON: 18 October 2003
Is there any way I can use Exchange to detect spamming at an earlier stage? What is the setting for managing spam in Exchange 2000 server?

>
Exchange 2000 provides only minimal anti-spam capabilities. For example, you can use the message delivery options to filter messages with blank senders, filter out specific addresses or filter out specific domains. In addition, you can set IP-level restrictions that prevent other specific SMTP servers from connecting to your SMTP endpoint. This is accomplished at the SMTP Virtual Server level.

That's pretty much it. Exchange 2003 includes several more features, such as recipient filtering and support for relay block lists (RBLs). However, in my opinion, even with these features, you'll still need Exchange-aware antivirus software, and you may still need a third-party anti-spam package.
