QUESTION POSED ON: 24 October 2006
I would like to create a server-side forwarding rule to enable a copy of an email message to be sent to a BlackBerry device address. My goal is to have a copy sent to the BlackBerry and the user's Exchange Server mailbox. I don't want a client-side rule set because the message becomes a forwarded message, and replying to the originator from the BlackBerry is rendered ineffective. Can you assist?

The Exchange Server administrator has the authority to set restrictions on email that gets sent to BlackBerry handheld devices using global redirection filters. These override any mailbox filters set. Here are the steps:

  1. In Exchange Administration, go to Blackberry Servers.
  2. Under Blackberry Server go to Properties and select the server
  3. Then select Global Filters -> Filters.
  4. Under Redirector Settings, select New to open the Add Filter window.
  5. Type a name for the new filter and set the conditions and actions and click OK.
  6. The new filter should be listed in the list under the Filters tab.

MEMBER FEEDBACK TO THIS ASK THE EXPERT Q&A:

As I read the question, the poser does not have a Blackberry server -- just an Exchange server.
