QUESTION POSED ON: 27 September 2006
I have an Exchange 2003 server that is running out of space. I would like to upgrade that disk space to the data store, but I'm not sure about the process. How would you recommend upgrading the hard drives?

>
I would recommend doing this in the following steps:
  1. Stop Exchange
  2. Backup the database
  3. Replace physical disk with larger capacity (ensure path is the same)
  4. Restore database
  5. Mount Exchange database
Backup and restore are generic terms. You could just file-copy to another drive if you would prefer. I believe this should work, but testing and documenting this process in the lab will make you feel better about the entire process.
