QUESTION POSED ON: 05 July 2006
I have some basic scripts using admin.exe for Exchange 5.5. We are getting ready to migrate to Exchange 2003. We are also switching to Active Directory. Will the admin commands still work?

I'm making an assumption that you are talking about directory modification and import/export work you do via admin.exe. This isn't exactly the same in Exchange 2003. There are a few tools you should be aware of:

  1. ADMODIFY.NET v2.1: This is a bulk change utility available from Microsoft. The latest version can be found at gotdotnet.com or by asking your technical support manager. This will allow you to perform bulk modifications against Active Directory objects. You can pick them via the GUI, or an LDAP query.

Below are some sample screen shots of the functionality available in ADMODIFY 2.1.

  2. CSVDE: Microsoft publishes a good article on how to use CSVDE to import contacts and user objects into AD.

  3. LDIFDE: Microsoft also publishes a good article on how to use LDIFDE to import and export directory objects.
