QUESTION POSED ON: 27 April 2006
Can I use the Exchange Migration Wizard to move mailboxes from one Exchange 5.5 organization, on an NT4 domain, to a new Exchange 2003 organization in a new Windows 2003 domain?

All the articles I've read talk about migrating mailboxes from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003, but don't say anything about the possibility of one of the domains being NT4. Do you know of any issues using Active Directory Migration Tool to go from NT4 to Windows 2003?

Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT) is exactly the Microsoft provided utility to move NT accounts into Windows 2003. The latest version of this utility is available here. In addition, you could review the Microsoft Knowledge Base article, How to set up ADMT for Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 migration. Third-party products can also assist your migration process.

I think the user was asking how best to move the mailboxes rather than how to move the NT accounts

I have the same dilemma. Could you revisit the question? Thanks!

The question was geared toward how to handle NT to Active Directory (AD) migrations.

Specific to the Exchange move, it sounded like the original poster wanted to do an intra-org migration. There is a nice webcast from Microsoft, "Strategies for migrating from Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange Server 2003," that explains the process of deploying the Active Directory Connector (ADC) and moving mailboxes from the Exchange 5.5 server to an Exchange 2003 server in the same site.

There is also another answer already posted on SearchExchange.com on this exact topic: "Tool suggestions for an NT/Exchange 5.5 to Win2003/Exchange 2003 migration."
