QUESTION POSED ON: 03 April 2006
How can we forward an email using a different Outlook account than the one where the email was received? I am using Microsoft Outlook 2003. I have set up a rule, but it uses the same account for sending. I have three email accounts; one is set up for LAN and two are POP3 on Web mail. I want to forward one email received from Web mail for local distribution.

In order to forward an email using a different Outlook account than where the email was received, follow these steps:

  1. Open the message and click Forward.
  2. Select View from the menu and then choose the "From" field.
  3. Select the From account and insert your alternate account.

Note: You must have permissions to send from the account or your e-mail will be returned as undeliverable.

MEMBER FEEDBACK TO THIS ASK THE EXPERT Q&A:

I am looking for a solution to this problem, but the expert seems to have missed the point. The user says that the email is forwarded as part of a rule, meaning that no user interaction is required. However, I believe the user wants to have email that comes in via a specified account, be automatically forwarded via a different account, WITHOUT having to manually select the sending account for each email.

So if 60 emails come into Microsoft Outlook through the "My Main Address" account, they will all automatically be forwarded to another location via the "My Other Address" account. This is without having to manually forward and select the appropriate account for each of the 60 messages.

Please clarify this post. Thanks.

I've done some research on this and also spoken to some of the Exchange MVPs. The general consensus is that this cannot be done. Exchange does not provide functionality to receive email at one account and auto-forward it with a different account. One might be able to accomplish this with some custom scripting (well beyond my own skills), or, as Patricia suggested, it can be done manually.
