QUESTION POSED ON: 12 January 2006
All of our users who use Outlook versions newer than 2000 (XP and 2003) have the same problem. Every couple of minutes, they get this message:

"Task 'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (0x8004010F): The operation failed. An object could not be found."

Users who use older versions of Outlook do not have this problem.

All of a sudden this problem occurred, and about a month ago the problem was suddenly gone. But last week, users started to get this message again. E-mail does come in and go out without any problems, but this error keeps appearing on the screen. What could be wrong? We use Exchange 5.5 on an NT4 server.

You may want to try changing the mail profile out of cached mode to alleviate the problem. You may also want to try doing a rebuild from Exchange Manager. Go to Recipients -> Offline addresses -> Default offline address list. Right click and then rebuild.

It seems that the Microsoft Outlook profile is corrupted. Try creating a new user profile:

  1. Go to Start -> Control Panel ->Mail icon.
  2. Click Show Profiles.
  3. Click New Profile and type a name.
  4. Add the e-mail account in the E-mail Options.
  5. Type the server name and user name.
  6. Cick on Check Name.
  7. Change the default profile to the one you have created.
  8. Open Outlook and add your archive file by going to File -> New -> Outlook Data File.
  9. Select your archive file.
