QUESTION POSED ON: 24 April 2005
What would happen to our Exchange system if I deleted the streaming file? We are currently having trouble with the size of the database that we are trying to defragment. Is there a way to inspect the contents of the database to clear unwanted e-mails off the system?

>
The .STM file that you are referring to is an integral part of your Exchange database. Do not delete this under any circumstances. Deleting this file will cause you to lose data and risk data corruption. It would be akin to removing the gas tank in your car to make more room for luggage.

I recommend that you add storage to this server in order to allow the defragmentation to proceed.
