QUESTION POSED ON: 10 February 2005
We are a small consultancy company with five employees. We have a Small Business Server 2003 with Exchange 2003. What is the best practice for collecting e-mail from the ISP? We currently use POP3 to collect and SMTP to deliver mail. However, I am concerned that this may not be the best option. Can you please advise?

Exchange Server and SBS running Exchange don't provide native "POP client" support to bring in the e-mail directly into Exchange. Exchange can be configured to be a POP server -- meaning a POP client can connect to an Exchange server properly configured with the POP virtual server. You are currently using a POP client directly to your ISP, which works OK. There are third-party Exchange solutions that provide POP client connectors for Exchange that you may want to look into.
