Will Exchange support the replication of user mailboxes at different locations?

I have been told that Exchange does not support replication of user mailboxes - i.e. they can't exist both at a data center and on a local server. Is this true and if so, is there a solution?

While Exchange has no native features that provide for replication of information stores across servers, there are third-party products that do provide this functionality:
