Q

Use OWA only to access Exchange 2000 mailboxes

I have an Exchange 5.5 server that the hardware is too old to upgrade to Windows 2000 and Exchange 200, plus the PDC is a P1 166 so I can't upgrade it to 2000 with AD. So what I want to do is create a new 2000 domain with AD and Exchange 2000 OWA and have it access the Exchange 5.5 server for mailboxes. Is this possible?
No, it is not. You can only use Exchange 2000 Outlook Web Access (OWA) to access Exchange 2000 mailboxes. You cannot use it to access Exchange 5.5 mailboxes. This is documented in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 260832.
