Upgrading Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000 in a mixed mode environment

I am running a mixed mode environment consisting of an Exchange 5.5 server and an Exchange 2000 server. I am ready to upgrade Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000. What is the best approach? Is it better to uninstall the Exchange 5.5 and then install Exchange 2000? Or is it better to do an in-place upgrade of Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000? I have already moved the user mailboxes to Exchange 2000 Server.

If you've already moved the user mailboxes to Exchange 2000, I believe you've already done the migration. The remaining steps in the process are outlined in the Microsoft TechNet document "Migrating mailboxes from Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 to Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server." On page 17, Step 7 has information about the final migration tasks and Step 8 discusses user steps for the migration process.
