Q

Opening a pub1.edb file to extract data

Is there any way to open a pub1.edb file outside of Exchange and extract data?
Good question. Yes, there are two commonly used solutions on the market that permit opening a pub.edb file in order to extract data. These are Ontrack PowerControls (by Kroll) and Quest Recovery Manager for Exchange (by Quest Software). These solutions use different mechanisms for accessing the store … PowerControl uses proprietary technologies from Ontrack, while Recovery Manager for Exchange uses native Microsoft APIs to access the store. The Ontrack solution permits search within mailboxes, public folders and messages within an EDB file. The Quest Software solution permits all of the above plus keyword search within attachments and attachment filenames.
