Is it possible to set up a clustered front-end Exchange server?

Is it possible to set up a clustered front-end Exchange server to allow clients OWA access to a clustered (two...

server active/passive) Exchange back-end? I have been told by Microsoft that this is not possible or not a recommended configuration. If this is not possible/recommended, is there ANY way to provide redundancy to a front-end server in this scenario? While you can load-balance front-end servers, you cannot cluster them. You can cluster back-end servers; but note that for clustering and to create front-end servers, you need to use the Enterprise Edition of Exchange.
