Is it common for Exchange backup agents to only handle the storage groups on the shared disk?

We are running MSCS A/P (Microsoft Cluster Server in active/passive) with two nodes. Our shared disk contains our storage groups, gather logs (content indexing) and metadata. Is it common for Exchange backup agents to only handle the storage groups on the shared disk? We found Veritas NBU DC v4.5 MP2 doing this. Thus, I slapped both those items on my OS backup policy as opposed to the Exchange backup policy. I realize that these two items are outside of the true scope of storage groups, but up to that point in time, my OS backup policy was not touching the shared disk. Thanks.

Exchange-aware backup solutions typically only deal with information stores, storage groups or mailboxes (depending on what version of Exchange you are running), and not with ancillaries such as Microsoft search data and the like. Therefore, you'll want to make sure that this data is being externalized by some other process.
