The move mailbox database function that existed in the Exchange Management Console has been removed. Therefore, if you want to move databases to a separate volume (highly recommended) you must use the Exchange Management Shell (EMS) instead.
This can prove deceiving to the uninitiated since you can still view the mailbox database path from within the new Exchange Administration Center (EAC). To move Exchange 2013 databases, simply log into the EAC and select the Edit option. You'll notice that the current database path is listed, but cannot be changed. At this point, note down the database name; it's the one that ends in the .edb file extension.
On the new volume, create a folder for the Exchange 2013 database; this is where you're going to move it. Now, open an EMS session and type the following command:
Move-Database -Identity "Current Database Name" -EdbFilePath "X:\path to new database location\database.edb
You'll be prompted to confirm that you do in fact want to perform this action. Confirm that you are ready to dismount the database while this occurs.
Once complete, go back into the EAC and double-check that the database has been mounted properly.
