Q

Can I create an Exchange Server distribution list with data from another source?

SearchExchange.com expert David Sengupta explains two different strategies for creating an Exchange Server distribution list with data from another source.

Can I create an Exchange Server distribution list with data from another source (a database or text file)?
The only way I know how to achieve this is to use native Microsoft technologies such as Microsoft Identity Integration Server (MIIS) 2003 . That may be overkill, however.

Depending on your requirements, it's possible that the Identity Integration Feature Pack 1a for Microsoft Windows Server Active Directory (what a name!) will meet your needs. Barring that, you'll want to search for third-party tools to achieve this. A few exist. Query your favorite search engine for: synchronize gal "external database."
