Baseline the Exchange servers

I am trying to baseline our Exchange servers before installing new software. I want to monitor certain objects for a week and then compare with same after installation. However, when I run a test for 24 hours, System Monitor will not display the log file. I open System Monitor, click the "View Log File Data," choose the log file and open it but nothing at all displays in the panel. I have tested on a PC with the same result so it looks like it is me but I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

I suspect that the step you are missing is this: Once you have opened the log file in System Monitor, you need to add the counters that you want to view to your display. You do this by using the "+" sign at the top of the right pane of System Monitor once you have opened the log. Once you have done this, you will see the performance results of your 24-hour performance log.
